The Federal Government has barred Emirates Airlines from operating into and out of Nigeria.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, announced the development on his Twitter handle.
Sirika said the ban will take effect from September 21, 2020.
The Minister said the development followed a meeting between the Aviation Sub-Committee of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and Ambassadors of the European Union over the ban placed on Lufthansa Airways, Air France and KLM.
The airlines were among those barred from Nigeria’s airspace when the country lifted the ban on international flights as a result of COVID-19.
Others barred from flying into Nigeria were Etihad, RwandAir, Air Namibia, Royal Air Maroc, TAAG Angola Airlines, Cabo Verde and South African Airways.
On the decision to add Emirates to the list of banned airlines, Sirika tweeted: “The PTF sub-committee met today with EU Ambassadors to discuss Lufthansa, Air France/KLM ban.
“The meeting progressed well.
“Emirates Airlines’ situation was reviewed and they are consequently included in the list of those not approved, with effect from Monday, September 21, 2020.”
