Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade, the Deji of Akure, on Wednesday notified residents of Akure and its environs that all markets and shops in Akure would be shut on August 19 and September 4 for celebrations marking the Aheregbe and Amole festivals respectively.
This was contained in a statement by Micheal Adeyeye, the Chief Press Secretary to Oba Ogunlade on Wednesday.
The statement said: “The closure becomes necessary as part of the requirement to observe the age-long traditions of the annual Aheregbe and Amole festivals.
“It is important to emphasise that there shall be no trading or opening of shops under any guise on these days.
“Residents, market women and shop owners are kindly enjoined to comply with this directive.
“However, the festivals would not in any way restrict both human and vehicular movement.”
