A female Sales Manager in a textile company, Aisha Ishola, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a gold jewellery worth N2.5 million.
Ishola, 27, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.
The Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Chinedu Njoku, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 18 at Martins Street, Lagos Island.
Njoku said the defendant stole a 121.2 gram gold jewellery worth N2.5 million, belonging to the complainant, Afeez Oshodi, a customer to the textile company.
He further said the complainant bought some textile materials from the company and entrusted it, alongside the jewellery, in the care of the defendant.
He said: “The complainant asked the defendant to help him send the materials, including the jewellery, to someone in the United States of America through courier, but the defendant stole the gold jewellery and sent only the textile materials to the recipient.”
According to Njoku, the offences contravene Sections 287(3) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her.
The Magistrate, Folashade Botoku, granted her a N200,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.
Botoku ordered that the defendant be kept at the Lion Building Police Division in compliance with the COViD-19 protocols until she perfects the bail conditions.
Botoku, thereafter, adjourned the case till July 14 for mention.
