Female basketball needs more private companies’ support – Official

Adamu Janlong, the Technical Director of Nigeria Basketball Federation, on Friday in Abuja urged private companies to support female basketball by sponsoring competitions.
Janlong told the News Agency of Nigeria the NBBF would appreciate other banks and other corporate bodies emulating Zenith Bank Plc in sponsoring competitions.
He said: “They can partner with us whenever we organise our competitions, especially the female event.
“We want corporate organisations, philanthropists and lovers of basketball to support our female grassroots competition.”
The federation official said Musa Kida, the NBBF president, had planned to have more female grassroots competition in place.
He said the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League has been the only female competition the NBBF board has organised since it came into office.
He said: “We have planned to organise more female events next year. They will start from state to zonal stage, and then the final round.
“This is because our national female basketball team made us proud in their competition this year, and we want to continue to build upon the foundation of the girls for the future.’’
He said the NBBF board was confident that grassroots competitions would help the federation to discover young and new talents which could be nurtured for the future.
