FCT area councils received N1.95b revenue allocation for April – Akinjide

The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, said on Wednesday that the FCT area councils received N1.95 billion revenue allocation for April from the Federation Account Allocation Committee.
Akinjide made this known while disbursing the funds at the monthly Joint Account Allocation Committee to the six area council chairmen of the FCT in Abuja.
She said that the funds for polio immunisation would be deducted from the councils’ account at source.
She gave the breakdown of the N1.95 billion to include statutory allocation (N859.61 million), Value Added Tax (N764.39 million) and Subsidy Reinvestment Programme for May as N56.77 million.
The minister added that the N1.95 billion received from the Federation Account would be shared among the six area councils and other stakeholders in the territory.
Akinjide said N888.46 million was deducted from the councils’ fund for primary school teachers (UBEB), N95.04 million representing 15 per cent for pension fund, N19.53 million representing one per cent of the collection as training fund.
Also, N59.32 million and N13 million was deducted for FCT immunisation plus day for April and May respectively, she added.
She gave the net distribution of the allocation to the councils as N123.90 million for Abaji Area Council, N178.79 million for Abuja Municipal Area Council, N141.22 million for Bwari, N146.33 million for Gwagwalada, N123.29 million for Kuje and N107.78 million for Kwali.
On SURE-P funds, AMAC got the highest allocation of N16.77 million, Abaji; N6.96 million, Bwari; N9.28 million, Kuje;
N7.45 million, Gwagwalada; N8.50 million and Kwali; N7.79 million.
The minister said a total of N2.07 million was realised as Internally Generated Revenue for May 2013 and was shared among the six area councils.
Out of the N2.07 million IGR, N135.86 million was deducted for Health Insurance Contribution and LEA teachers’ entitlement (monetisation) from the six area councils.
Akinjide urged the chairmen to focus more on the needs of the people and support sanitation in the councils.
She said that the Satellite Town Development Agency was committed to providing cleaning equipment to help the councils in sanitation exercises.
The minister said that standards must be set in the provision of water, toilets and electricity for every Primary Healy Care Centre, schools and markets in the councils.
She said: “There is the need for an audit of schools and markets in the area councils to ascertain which ones have water and toilets.
“It is imperative that our schools and markets have water and toilet facilities in order to have healthy citizens.”
