The World Cup-winning US women’s football team are, on Thursday, set to take on their own USSF federation in court after mediation over a pay dispute broke down.
Molly Levinson, a spokesperson of the players, said the USSF representatives entered into the mediation with full of hope.
She said: “Today we must conclude these meetings sorely disappointed in the federation’s determination to perpetuate fundamentally discriminatory workplace conditions and behaviour.
“We want all our fans, sponsors, peers around the world and women everywhere to know we are undaunted and will eagerly look forward to a jury trial.’’
However, the dispute dates from March, when the US players, including stars such as Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan, along with less known reserves, filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against the USSF.
They claimed that their pay and conditions were worse than that offered to the men’s squad.
In contrast to their male counterparts, the women enjoyed regular success, having claimed a fourth World Cup title in July.
Meanwhile, the USSF president, Carlos Cordeiro, claimed that in July, the women’s team were paid more than their male counterparts in 2010-2018.
