Explosions rock two Abuja satellite towns, many feared dead

Multiple explosions occurred at about the same time in two satellite towns of Abuja on Friday night.
The explosions occurred at about 10:30pm.
The affected satellite towns were Nyanyan and Kuje.
While Kuje is one of the prisons believed to be holding Boko Haram suspects, Nyanyan had been attacked in the past by members of the dreaded sect, leaving several dead.
Two separate explosions at a Nyanyan motor park last year left over 100 persons dead.
Friday night’s attack on Kuje occurred at a market close to a police station.
Traffic to Kuje prisons and the scene of the attack were quickly diverted.
The National Emergency Management Agency confirmed the two attacks in a statement by its spokesperson, Ezekiel Manzo.
NEMA said in the statement: “Following the unfortunate explosions that occurred this night in Nyanya and Kuje, which are two satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, the National Emergency Management Agency has deployed its rescue teams in the evacuation of the victims to various hospitals. The explosions which occurred almost simultaneously have resulted in a number of deaths and injuries but the rescue operations coordinated by NEMA is still ongoing. Details would be made available later.”
