A stakeholder in the education sector, Chief Yomi Otubela, on Tuesday advised public office holders to always involve themselves in physical fitness to relax their brains.
Otubela, also the Deputy President of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, told the News Agency of Nigeria on the sideline of the ongoing Lagos schools’ sports events 2015 that exercise must be given top priority by all.
He said public servants and office holders not relaxing their brains regularly had allegedly led to some of the vices in the society.
He said: “Exercise relaxes the brains, muscles and helps you to think well.
“So embezzling billions of naira will be an abnormality.
“When you exercise regularly, you think straight, your brain is at alert and you are physically and psychologically fit to know what is good from what is bad.”
According to Otubela, if the brain of an individual is redundant, such an individual will not be active and cannot think of a better means of making money than to embezzle.
Earlier, Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, described sports as an important part of learning process in schools.
Akinbile-Yusuf said the ministry had introduced some sporting activities in schools among students and teachers, adding that it would soon co-opt private schools into it.
She, however, encouraged schools to be organising more regular sporting activities in order to reduce different ailments, especially among teachers.
Also, Kamal Akande, the Lagos State President of NAPPS, commended the state government for providing conducive atmospheres where learning and teaching could take place.
Akande, however, urged the government to provide more recreational facilities for schools to encourage sporting activities.
