Ex-Gov. Uduaghan set to dump APC

There are indications that a former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, will be dumping the All Progressives Congress soon.

Uduaghan was a two-term governor of Delta State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party from 2007 to 2015.

He defected to the All Progressives Congress in 2018, contesting the election for Delta North Senatorial District in 2019 on the platform.

He left the PDP after a fallout with his successor, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who was elected on the platform of the same party.

However, sources said Uduaghan has come under pressure from his cousin and former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, to return to the party they all founded together.

Ibori was in a London prison serving time for corruption when the PDP in Delta State, ruptured.

Since he returned to the country, He was said to have been insisting on the return of Uduaghan to the party.

In this direction, Governor Okowa was also said to have made overtures to Uduaghan, who has since visited the Delta State Government House in Asaba a couple of times.

A prominent member of the PDP in the state, who was also a part of Uduaghan’s 2007-2015 Administration, said: “His Excellency, former Governor Uduaghan, is joining us (PDP) soon.

“A big ceremony is being put in place by Governor Okowa to welcome him to the family, where he rightly belongs.

“We are happy that our leader is coming back.”

Udugahan, a Medical Doctor, became a known political figure as part of the Ibori Administration when he served as Commissioner for Health.

He was later appointed the Secretary to the State Government.

Perhaps his most notable achievement apart from the numerous infrastructural projects he undertook as Governor, was the restoration of peace to Warri, the oil-rich city in Delta State.

As SSG, he relocated to Warri to oversee the process.
