Chelsea’s nightmare start to the season continued as they suffered a sensational home defeat to Bournemouth.
The visitors recorded a stunning 1-0 win over the Blues, thanks to a late header from substitute striker, Glenn Murray.
The reigning Premier League champions made a slow start to the tie and that allowed the Cherries to seize the initiative.
Eddie Howe’s troops, who prior to kick-off occupied 18th place in the table, created a number of chances to take the lead but were thwarted by an in-form Thibaut Courtois.
The visitors’ early chances sprung the home side into life and they began to take the game to the newly promoted side.
Pedro had a great chance to give the home side the lead in the 40th minute but saw his effort palmed around the post by Artur Boruc.
Jose Mourinho’s men started the second-half a lot better than they began and dominated proceedings.
Diego Costa was brought off the bench in an attempt to give last season’s Capital One Cup winners a different dimension and his presence helped solidify the Blues’ dominance.
However, despite running last season’s Championship winners’ ragged, the west Londoners failed to create any clear-cut chances.
The Blues cranked up the pressure on the south coast side in the last quarter of an hour to try nick the goal that would land them the three points.
However, they were unable to do so – much to the dismay of Mourinho.
And they were punished for their lack of incisiveness in the 81st minute when Murray, who came on for Josh King in the 80th minute, got on the end of a knockdown from Steve Cook and headed home the winner.
