Lawmakers in Enugu State on Monday morning began impeachment proceedings against the state Governor, Sullivan Chime.
Chime has been accused by the lawmakers of high handedness and corrupt enrichment.
The Punch however reports that the state government has dismissed the plot to remove the governor from office.
Chime’s spokesman, Chukwudi Achife, said the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Eugene Odoh, has been removed and a new speaker elected.
Reports have it that Chime had asked the Assembly to approve N11 billion for the construction of a secretariat.
The Assembly turned the request down.
This was said to have angered Chime who allegedly induced some members of the Assembly to remove Odoh from office.
