Super Eagles’ sharp shooter, Emmanuel Emenike, returned with a fury as he fired home his first goal of the season in Spartak Moscow’s win
over Ural Sverdlovsk Oblast in the Russia Premier Liga fixture on
Sunday.
As regulation time was winding down, the AFCON 2014 Golden Boot
winner, who had replaced Yura Movsisyan near the hour mark, poached on Aiden McGeady’s effort that rasped off the cross-bar and promptly sent it into the net to provide Spartak the full three points via a 2-0 victory.
Earlier in the game, Spartaks were rewarded in the 51st minute as
Dmitri Kombarov‘s cross from the left was re-directed towards the
right by-line with Sergei Parshivlyuk, then sending a slide-rule
provision that Aiden McGeady prodded into the net.
Spartak maintained an unblemished start to the new campaign with a
disciplined 2-0 victory over Ural Sverdlovsk Oblast.
With the result, the Red-Whites sit atop the Sogaz Championship of
Russia as Week Two comes to a close.
Play was decidedly bogged down in the midfield as Spartak continued to search for a path through their hosts defending lines but
opportunities were scarce.
Meanwhile, Emenike’s new scoring form will send jilters down the
spines of the likes of Flames of Malawi and Bafana Bafana of South
Africa, who will engage the Super Eagles in the World Cup qualifier
and Mandela Challenge respectively.
