Malam Usman Dantudu, Chairman of Civilian JTF in Kaduna, says the neighbourhood watch group is tracking miscreants in 152 communities in the state to prevent any form of disruption during the forthcoming elections.
Dantudu told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Kaduna that the group has also deployed over 100 of its members across the state on intelligence gathering.
He said that the group is working with the police to keep the peace and ensure that miscreants do not take advantage of the elections to cause mayhem in any part of the state.
According to him the group had already compiled a register of known criminals in various communities and forwarded it to the police for proper monitoring.
He said: “We are very concerned about peace, because most times we are at the receiving ends in our communities once there is any trouble or mayhem.
“We have been going round for the past one year sanitizing all the communities to stay calm because we are there to watch over them.”
The chairman said the police has been training members of the group to ensure that they operate within the confines of the law.
He said: “We are assisting the police in providing them with information to ensure peaceful coexistence within our communities.
“As election is around the corner, the organization has quite a number of plans to provide adequate security across communities in the state.
“We have done census of all the bad guys and thugs in the state. We know them and their moves, we have decided that this election is going to be different we are not going to tolerate any misbehaviour from anybody. We are going to keep peace in all our communities.”
He advised politicians not to regard the forthcoming election as a do-or-die affair, urging them to approach the contest peacefully.
Dantudu solicited for support from communities, saying divulging information on criminals would help to keep all communities safe.
