Ekiti procures six intensive care ambulances, fire fighting trucks

In pursuance of the commitment of the Dr. Kayode Fayemi administration to providing quality healthcare and emergency services to the people of Ekiti State, the state government has taken delivery of no fewer than six customised intensive care ambulances and eight fire fighting vehicles.
Fayemi, who made this known in Ado Ekiti while receiving the
management team of the Federal Medical Centre, Ido- Ekiti, led by the
Chief Medical Director, Dr. Majekodunmi Ayodele, stated that the
vehicles were procured to provide stand-by emergency services in
different parts of the state.
Fayemi, whose administration’s free health programme has benefitted no fewer than 720,000 citizens, said the six newly purchased ambulances, which will complement the ones earlier purchased, are different from the typical ambulances as they are basically intensive care unit vehicles where minor surgeries can be carried out before a patient is transported to the nearest health facility.
It would be recalled that the state government had late last year
recruited 153 fire fighters and paramedics in order to bring emergency services closer to the people, with an assurance to establish a functional fire service station as well as an ambulance bay in each of the 16 local government areas of the state by 2014.
The governor, while addressing the CMD’s request for an ambulance,
stated that two of the state-of-the-art ambulances would be stationed
in Ado-Ifaki axis and Ipoti-Ayetoro axis in order to serve the area as well as meet the request of the FMC.
Fayemi renewed his call on Community Health Doctors who are operating
in tertiary health facilities to return to the grassroots and cater to the need of the people rather than waiting for referrals from the
grassroots.
He said their services to the people at the grassroots would best help government in ensuring a healthier society.
The governor pledged to support the centre, saying that no support is
too much for the facility as it serves Ekiti people as well as other
Nigerians.
Earlier in his remarks, Ayodele had commended Fayemi for the brilliant actualization of the eight-point agenda of his administration.
Ayodele said the positive impact of the transformation agenda would be indelible in the hearts of the citizenry.
Ayodele urged the governor to extend to the Federal Government-owned
health institutions the various support the administration has given
to state-owned health institutions in Ekiti State.
