Afenifere chieftain and Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, has described as false and misleading, the claim that the state executive of the party was pushing for consensus candidate because some of the aspirants were afraid of primary election, adding that he had done enough work to guarantee him victory “if primary election is held today.”
Adeyeye said: “As far as I am concerned, I am not afraid of primary election and no aspirant has expressed fear over primary election. Rather, what we are all pushing for is a situation where a credible and sellable candidate will emerge through a process that will ensure harmonious relationship among the aspirants and party members.”
In a statement signed by the Director General of his campaign organisation, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement, Hon. Bisi Kolawole, the governorship aspirant also said it was wrong for anyone to believe that the PDP cannot win elections in Ekiti State without him.
He said: “No single individual has the capacity to win election in the PDP in Ekiti State and anyone who believes he can solely win the governorship election can as well present himself as independent candidate or form his own party, where he will be the Alpha and Omega.
“It is like an athlete saying without him, his country cannot win a relay race. The most reasonable thing for such an athlete to do will be to simply run the relay race alone, win alone and take the glory alone.”
Adeyeye, who maintained that there must be discipline in the party, said: “The major problem of the PDP is indiscipline and if we must continue to make progress as a party, there must be discipline.
“For instance, it smacks of high level of indiscipline for any aspirant to be kicking against a position openly canvassed by Mr. President, who is the leader of the party. Would such an aspirant respect the president and other party leaders if he or she is picked as the party candidate and he or she becomes governor?
“It is also wrong for members of the PDP to have sponsored the kind of attack that was made on members of the State Exco of the party and anyone will believes that those who carried out such barbaric act should not be sanctioned.
“Therefore, no one should attempt to misinform the public by claiming that they were sanctioned by the party because some aspirants are afraid of primary election because as far as I am concerned, I am not afraid of primary election.”
