The Ekiti State Government has chided the Peoples Democratic Party in the South West over what it called the party’s penchant for cheap blackmail and falsehood.
The state government said the PDP is yet to recover from its ouster from power in the zone, hence its resort to “wild allegations and wicked lies” to gain
undeserved relevance.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Olayinka Oyebode, said the people of the state are “too intellectually sophisticated” to be taken in by unfounded lies being spewed by the PDP in the South West, whose arrowheads it accused of having been indicted of electoral fraud by the courts of law.
Oyebode described the South West PDP allegation of spending N250 million on legal fees, street rallies and media campaign on pending Supreme Court judgment as “laughable, illogical, absurd and diversionary” and intended to provide a comic relief to a band of political jesters.
He challenged the PDP to tell the people of the state whether spending huge resources of the state to sustain a stolen mandate was not its pastime during its three-and-half year illegal occupation of the Government House.
Describing the Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led administration in Ekiti State as the most accountable and transparent in the history of the state, Oyebode said the allegation of spending N250 million on legal fees, protests and media campaign only existed in the paranoia of the PDP South West Zone.
He explained that the passage of the Freedom of Information Law and Fiscal Responsibility Law, which he forwarded to the House of Assembly, bears eloquent testimony to enthronement of probity, accountability and transparency in the state.
The statement contended that with the Freedom of Information Law in operation in the state, the South West PDP and its agents need not to source for information through the backdoor to be used for mischievous purposes.
Oyebode added: “There are procedures for approval of funds for projects which are appropriated by the House of Assembly through the annual budgets.
“As admitted by the South West PDP, money approved were actually budgeted for the projects they are meant and due process was followed to the letter.
“The South West PDP went on a voyage illusion and political perfidy by insinuating albeit laboriously, that the funds were being diverted into funding legal fees, street rallies and media campaign.
“We have various projects to show for how we have expended the resources belonging to the people of Ekiti State not only in the agriculture sector but in health, education, human capital development, infrastructure, tourism and industrial development.
“This government is accountable to the people of Ekiti State who are getting the best value for their money through landmark projects that are visible to the eyes being executed across the state.”
