The All Progressives Congress has called on Nigerians, especially Muslims, to use the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to rededicate themselves to selfless sacrifices for the benefit of the country.
Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, APC National Chairman, made the call in a statement on Thursday in Abuja while felicitating with Muslim faithful in the country on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir.
Odigie-Oyegun said: “We urge Nigerians to use the opportunity of the holy celebration to rededicate themselves to selfless sacrifices for the benefit of our neighbours and indeed the progress of the country.
“In our national life, we urge citizens to eschew all forms of violence, live in peaceful coexistence and be our brother’s keeper.
“As we gather around family and friends to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, we should be reminded of the significance of the holy festival.”
He noted that the festival celebrates the love and grace of Almighty Allah to mankind through sacrifice, devotion and faith irrespective of ethnic and religious affiliations.
The APC national chairman said that the country had recently witnessed some agitations with the potential of undermining its unity and relationship across religious and ethnic divides.
He said it was necessary for all to support and remain steadfast to the cause of a united Nigeria, adding that the country´s strength was in her diversity.
Odigie-Oyegun, therefore, called on Muslim faithful and Nigerians generally to continue to pray for the well-being of the country and the good health of President Muhammadu Buhari.
