The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday grilled Toyin, the wife of the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, for over six hours.
Barrister Saraki reported to the headquarters of the EFCC at 12:36pm. and was released by investigators of the commission at about 6:15pm.
She was accompanied to the EFCC by a large crowd of supporters from Kwara State.
Men, women and youth were all represented.
Also among those that accompanied Saraki to the EFCC were five senators and 20 members of the House of Representatives and the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Prominent among the senators who accompanied her and stayed till she was released was Senator Dina Melaye.
Others included Peter Nwaobosi, Abdul Abubakar, Binta Mashin and Isa Misau.
Also, Zaina, the wife of a former Governor of Kebbi State, Saidu Dakingari, was said to have reported at the EFCC briefly and left based on health grounds.
A source at the commission confided on Daily Independent that Mrs Dakingari appeared visibly sick.
It would be recalled that the EFCC last week extended invitation to Mrs. Saraki and Mrs. Dakingari to report to the commission and respond to some questions in connection with their activities when their husbands were governors of their respective states.
Mrs. Saraki after she was released by the EFCC could not pass through the main gate but had to pass through another entrance as desperate journalists who had spent the whole day waiting for her to come out were already waiting.
She just entered her already waiting vehicle and refused to talk to the journalists.
However, Mrs Saraki, few minutes after she left, sent a statement through her foundation, The Wellbeing Foundation.
She has been working with this foundation since she was the wife of the governor of Kwara State.
Thhe statement said: “As a citizen with the utmost respect for highest standards of transparency and democratic accountability, Her Excellency Mrs Toyin Saraki, visited the EFCC today (Tuesday) as per their invitation.
“Mrs. Saraki made herself available to assist the commission wholeheartedly with any lawful enquiry they may have.
“Following today’s (Tuesday) visit, Mrs. Saraki will continue to cooperate fully with the EFCC, and hopes for a prompt and positive resolution in satisfaction of this enquiry.
“Having placed an emphasis on the importance of accountability, transparency and diligent reporting, Mrs Saraki maintains that she has always operated within the law and to the highest standards of global compliance in all of her activities.”
