The Delta State police command says its men, on July 5, successfully ‘neutralised’ an unspecified number of armed robbers who were terrorising residents of Agbarha-Otor, and arrested one of the suspects, one Obakpororo Julius, 43.
A distress call had been received that the robbers were dispossessing residents of their valuables.
The DPO Ughelli Division promptly detailed detectives to the scene.
Exhibits recovered from the arrested suspect include one locally made pistol, six live cartridges, one expanded cartridge, some wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and four different phones.
In another development, the command said its operatives while on stop-and-search duty along Ijomi Otefe road on July 6 intercepted a Lexus 350 ES Saloon car with registrstion number ABUJA YAB 865 BP driven by one Dennis Oghenevwede, 29.
On searching the vehicle, the police discovered a handbag containing two cut-to-size pistols with seven cartridges.
“Investigation later revealed that the said suspect is a notorious cultist who has been on the wanted list of Police,” DSP Bright Edafe, the command’s spokesman said in a statement.
Operatives of Operation Delta Hawk patrol team also on July 6, 2021 arrested one Sunday Umadia, 41, with 174 wraps of dried weed suspected to be Indian hemp; 800 sachets of suspected SK; 10 razler (roll bond), one lighter and N317,890 cash.
Edafe said preliminary investigation later revealed that the suspect is a major dealer in illicit drugs.
Similarly, on July 5, ‘A’ Division Warri Rapid Respond team, acting on intelligence, raided a black spot at Ogedegbe Street, Warri, where one Austin Ojunom, 29, was arrested with 129 wraps of weed suspected to be Indian hemp.
