Delta plans N40.5b water, wildlife parks – Commissioner

The Delta State Government says it is collaborating with a private firm, Sarner PFM Limited, to construct N40.5 billion water and wildlife parks in the state.
Richard Mofe-Damijo, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, said this on Thursday in Asaba at the presentation of the mid-term report of his ministry.
Mofe-Damijo said that the parks, which would be financed under the Public Private Partnership initiative, would be of world-class standard.
The project, he said, was one of the strategies by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan administration to boost tourism in the state.
He said that the water park would be located at Oleri in Udu Local Government Area, while the wildlife park would be sited at Ogwuashi-Uku in Aniocha Local Government Area.
The commissioner said that the foreign partner would provide the funds for the projects while the government had provided 500 acres of land, being 10 per cent its counterpart funding.
He said that when completed, the resort at Oleri would have waterfalls, African cultural village, children’s play ground, cinema/casino halls, sports villages, three and five star hotels.
Mofe-Damijo said that the construction of a bridge and access roads to link the project sites were nearing completion.
He said that the beautification of DSC-Effurun expressway to the proposed Delta Leisure Resort was also in progress.
