Delta PDP slams indefinite suspension on Mariam Ali

Mariam Nneamaka Ali, the wife of the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Ahmadu Ali, has been suspended for slapping the Delta State Chairman of the party, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi.
The party’s wing in Oshimili South Local Government Area, where she hails from in Delta State, wielded the big stick having recounted her antecedents in the last few months.
The duo of Nwaoboshi and Ali fought over the seat allegedly reserved for Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s deputy, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), last month at the party’s secretariat in Asaba, the state capital, during the party’s stakeholders’ meeting.
Nwaoboshi, who attempted to remove Ali from the seat, was allegedly slapped twice by Ali, who was said to be visibly angry over the challenge posed against her senatorial ambition by Nwaoboshi.
At the Elders, Leaders and Stakeholders meeting in Oshimili South area in Asaba on Tuesday, Ali was slammed an indefinite suspension.
The elders urged the national body of the party to disregard Ali and regard her action as “embarrassing.”
A six-point statement signed by Evangelist Ebialim Maduemezia, the council party chairman, and the chairman of the local government area Elders’ Council, Ogbueshi A. Eluaka, described Ali as “the assailant” who reported the face-off “whereupon she abdicated the matter at the police in Delta State Command.”
After the elders’ recounted how she ignored the invitation of the Asagba in Council, comprising the Traditional Rulers in Delta North Senatorial District, they placed her on indefinite suspension from the party.
The suspension, which was moved by one Ngozi Okolotu, was swifly seconded by Dr. Mordi Ononye before it was unanimously upheld.
The elders were categorical that Ali failed to behave like Chief Ngozi Olejeme, the chairperson of Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund, who they said “was doing the council area proud at the national level”.
They urged Ali to restrict her political activities to Kogi State, from where her husband hails from.
Maduemezia said: “Until she came, we have been doing very well in Oshimili South Local Government. She came in as a fighter. This was a woman that failed her elections twice between 2007 and 2011. We will not allow her to destroy the local government area for us. Her indefinite suspension letter should be prepared immediately.
“She is not a major player in the day to day politics of the council area. She only joined PDP five years ago in Oshimili South. Therefore, if PDP must continue to win in Delta State, we should not allow those who are not relevant in the politics of the state to destroy the fortune of the party.”
While the elders lauded Governor Uduaghan for leading the party in the state to greater heights, it called on President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately drop Ali as his Special Adviser.
