A governorship hopeful on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State, Sir Tony Obuh, on Wednesday wondered why his political adversaries are bent on pulling him down.
The aspirant, who described them as “intruders”, said they have started feeding members of the public with falsehood on his aspiration.
Obuh, who stated this in Asaba, said he was particularly worried over series of acrimonies trailing his ambition within and outside the state.
He listed the campaigns of calumny against him as “the greatest challenge” being confronted in the course of his consultations.
He said: “It may not necessarily be by my co-aspirants but some of their followers are raising allegations that are unfounded.
“Although, I am not worried about it, I feel concerned for the public that are fed with falsehood.”
Obuh retired as a Permanent Secretary.
He noted that he would run an open door policy if elected as governor, adding: “Delta is a great state and we need to harness the various resources and talents to build it.
“If God grants me favour, everybody, whether you contested or not, will be allowed to bring what he/she has to offer for the growth of the state to enable us put them together to build the Delta state of our choice.”
Obuh said his intention was to serve the state sincerely and faithfully by making human capital development and consolidation on the ‘Delta beyond Oil’ initiative of the present administration his priority attention.
He said: “I have deep faith in ‘Delta beyond Oil’ in the sense that we know that the oil revenue is very unstable.
“We are going to build on that initiative by ensuring that all the sources of revenue open to the state, be it tourism, sports, agriculture, etc, are vigorously explored.
“My focus is to grow the people and grow the economy.
“Specifically, we develop the people to have skills that would expose them to secure employment.
“We believe that lack of employment is as a result of lack of skills.
“So, we will help people to require skills to make them employable.
“We will also ensure that our natural resources are tapped to create wealth for the people.”
