The representative of Plateau Central Senatorial District, Senator Joshua Chibi Dariye; the Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi; Engr. Jimmy Chetto; and Hon. Danladi Atu were among thousands of Plateau State citizens who formally denounced the Peoples Democratic Party to decamp to the All Progressive Congress.
At the event, Senator Dariye led defectors from the Central Zone, while former Deputy Governor of Plateau State during the second tenure of Governor Jonah Jang, Ambassador Ignatius Long Jang, and Architect Pam Dung Gyang led those from the Southern Zone and Northern Zone respectively.
Gagdi, Chetto and Atu led defectors from Kanam, Langtang South and Jos North Local Government Areas.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the APC in Plateau State, Hon. Letep Dabang, said the defectors have fulfiled the constitutional requirements of the party by identifying with their constituents from wards, local governments and the state.
Dabang described the event as very symbolic considering the pedigree of the defectors and those receiving them who came all the way from Abuja.
They included the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Doggara.
The National Vice Chairman of the APC, North Central, Alhaji Zakari Iddi, expressed joy over the bold steps taken by the personalities and their followers to accept to be baptised to become full members of the party.
On his part, Odigie-Oyegun said: “We can see tears in the eyes of the people, but Muhammadu Buhari is working closely with the executive and legislative arms to set the country free.”
He pledged that by this time next year, Nigerians will have cause to smile because everything Buhari does is for the betterment of common man in this country.
Dogara said those defecting have the right to so do and that for those of them occupying legislative seats, including Dariye and Gagdi, have nothing to fear.
He said they will not lose their seats.
The Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, said: “Today I am going to witness the entire politicians in Plateau politics coming to join me to move the state forward.”
