The Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalist has held a sensitisation programme on the prevention of the spread of COVID-19.
The online sensitisation programme, which witnessed high level of participation from women journalists, helped throw more light on current developments on how to prevent the spread of the virus.
Delivering a lecture on prevention and bursting the myth on Coronavirus Disease, a Red Cross trainer, Ovwigho-Ugbede Oghenetejiri, said accurate data is sketchy on the life span of coronavirus outside the body hence the emphasis on regular hand washing, which he said must be done with running water and any decent soap.
Oghenetejiri emphasised that all the corners of the hands must be washed for 20 seconds, noting that hand sanitisers can only be used in places where it is difficult to get water.
While emphasising the need for social distancing in the prevention of coronavirus, the health expert said six feet is the recommended distance to be maintained.
On the use of face mask, Oghenetejiri said face mask should be discarded properly when damp with the user ensuring that their hands only touching the strap.
The Senior Nursing Officer in Edo State, Efe Iyamu, urged people who use improvised mask to ensure they wash, sun dry and iron it to kill all germs and virus.
Iyamu itemised some of the symptoms of coronavirus to include common fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
According to her, other symptoms may include shortness of breath, aches and pains and sore throat.
She added that few people report diarrhoea, nausea or a runny nose.
In a vote of thanks, the Chairperson of the Association, Adesuwa Ehimuan, thanked the facilitators and members for their active participation and urged the participants to transmit knowledge acquired for the benefit of the general public.
Some of the participants, including the General Manager, Bronze FM, Abimbola Oyetunde; Ijeoma Umeh; and Best Mbiere, expressed appreciation to the Chairperson and the executive council members for the initiative and all Nawojians for the impressive participation.
