The African Leadership Development Centre, Covenant University, Ota, in Ogun says preparations for an international women’s conference, aimed at bringing out leadership qualities in women have been concluded.
Prof. Aize Obayan, Director of the Centre, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Lagos.
She said that the two-day conference with the theme: “Beyond the Glass Ceiling,” is scheduled for May 15 and May 16.
She said that some of the keynote and lead speakers for the conference were a one-time Vice Chancellor, University of Uyo, Prof. Comfort Ekpo, and Mrs Olubunmi Abodurin, Chairperson, Executive Council, Women in Management, Business and Public Service.
According to her, the conference is designed for women in academia, business, industry, ministry, as well as emerging female leaders.
She noted that participants at the conference would be empowered and enabled to dismantle the shackles of the status quo.
The former vice chancellor, Covenant University, Ota added that they would also be able to reconstruct new identities by becoming adequately equipped to scale new heights in their respective fields.
She said: “The main goal of this career and professional women’s conference is to highlight and stir up solutions to gender parity issues within the context of the Nigerian and African societies.
“It will also spark up conversations that will bridge the gender gap across different sectors of the society.’’
She said that topics such as “Women in leadership; Drivers for development’’ and “Inspirational Steps for Advancement,’’ would also be discussed.
On her take on the need for women to be given more slots in governance, Obayan said, “I am not a proponent for affirmative action. I believe in merit’’.
