An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State has ordered the remand of a 25-year-old herdsman, Musa Duroyi, in Abolongo Correctional Centre for the alleged murder of his colleague.
The Chief Magistrate, O. O. Ogunkanmi, who gave the order on Thursday, did not take the plea of the accused.
Ogunkanmi directed that the suspect’s case file be sent to the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution for advice and adjourned the matter until March 30 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Ndaraka Essien, told the court that Duroyi on February 13 at about 6pm at Sawmill area in Iseyin allegedly caused the death of his colleague, Mohammed Kote, 22.
Essien said Kote had beaten Duroyi to coma during and argument over N200 given to them by their boss to buy recharge card, but the duo continued to work together after Duroyi recovered.
He added: “On February 13, 2022, Duroyi allegedly committed the act of alleged murder by hitting Kote with a stick on the head in a reprisal.
“Duroyi allegedly covered Kote’s corpse with his clothes before setting the body ablaze.”
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 326 and was punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
