Contractor to Works minister: You are a liar

The contractor handling the construction of the popular 5-Junction in Benin City, Edo State, has dismissed the claim of the Minister of Works, Architect Mike Onolemenmen, that the road is being handled by the Federal Government.
Onolemenmen had, at a town Hall Meeting, last week Tuesday, to climax the Good Governance Tour of Edo State said: “The junction of Akpakpava and Dawson Road is what we call kilometer 0.00.
“So from that kilometer 0.00 up to 5-Junction to Uselu to Ugbowo, to Ekiadolor is being handled by the Federal Government.”
However, Works Supervisor of Reynolds Construction Company, the firm handling the project, Yaniv Dabah, told reporters in Benin City on Tuesday during an inspection of the work by the state Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, that the project is exclusively financed by the Edo State Government.
According to Dabah: “Edo State Government is doing 5-Junction.
“The road, the erosion control, beautification and street lights at the 5-Junction are being financed and executed by the Edo State Government.”
Yaniv said the construction work on the 5-Junction, including the beautification and walkways, will be completed within two weeks.
He said Reynolds has already completed the asphalting and street lights on the road.
Dabah also said that work on the Adolor area of Ugbowo will be completed within a month.
He said when completed, “people in the area will be relieved from the perennial flooding in the area as the rainy season approaches.”
Dabah also acknowledged that the state government is doing additional lanes on both sides of the Akpakpava-Dawson-Uselu-Ugbowo Road, with walkways and street lights.
Oshiomhole told the contractor that he was impressed with the quality of work on the road and urged him to hasten the pace of work to meet the deadline.
