Ulunma Nwanaga, a gold medallist at the 2015 All Africa Games, who is representing Nigeria at the ongoing Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, on Thursday, said that she tried her best in her event.
Nwanaga, who was reacting to her poor outing, told the News Agency of Nigeria from Gold Coast on telephone that maybe her best was not good enough to win her a medal.
She said: “Nothing unusual happened, just that I did my best and the result came out that way. I still give thanks to God.”
NAN reports that Nwanaga threw 53.17 in the women’s category which held on April 11.
Australia’s Kathryn Mitchell threw a distance of 68.92m, to clinch the first position, while her compatriot, Keslie Lee-Roberts came second by throwing 63.89m.
Sunnette Viljoen of South Africa came third with a throw of 62.08m, the fourth position went to Elizabeth Gleadle with 59.85metres, and Sri Lanka’s Dilhani Lekamge who threw 56.02m came fifth.
Nigeria’s Nwanaga threw 53.17m, to finish in the sixth position, Selma Rosun of Mauritius placed seventh by throwing 49.09metres, while Uganda’s Josephine Lalam clinched the eighth position with 48.92m.
In spite of the setback, she told NAN that she would use the upcoming Confederation of African Athletics Senior Championships scheduled for August in Delta to restore her pride.
