COEASU wants FG appoint provost for FCE Pankshin

Teachers in the Federal College of Education, Pankshin, Plateau, have appealed to the Federal Government to urgently appoint a substantive provost for the college.
Emmanuel Hemba, Chairman, Pankshin, College of Education Academic Staff Union made appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Pankshin.
Hemba said that the appointment of the provost was being delayed, and that the delay was affecting the operations of the college due to limitations implied by an acting capacity.
Hemba said that the union had last month written to the Minister of Education, appealing for the appointment.
The COEASU chairman described the delay as unnecessary and detrimental to educational standards of the college.
Hemba said: “The period allowed for an acting provost has since expired due to the stipulation that it is temporary and should not exceed six months, and extendable for only one or two months to allow for appointment of a substantive provost.
“Since March, 2016, when the Ministry of Education conducted an interview for the vacant position of the provost, staff and students have waited to no avail the release of the result of the interview. ’’
He noted that the position was advertised on July, 2015.
The chairman also noted that the ministry appointed substantive provosts for Federal Colleges of Obudu and Katsina, whose interviews for the same position were conducted two months after that of Panskhin.
He added that the expired positions of deputy provost and other principal officers of FCE, Pankshin, had put pressure on the institution’s management.
The chairman said that appointment of the provost would prevent fall in education standards in FCE and help it to retain its status as one of the best colleges of education in the country.
