CNPP urges de-registered political parties to join ACN, CPC, ANPP merger

The Conference of Nigerian Political parties has urged all de-registered parties to join the merger plan of the Action Congress of Nigeria, the Congress for Progressive Change and the All Nigeria Peoples Party.
The National Publicity Secretary of the CNPP, Osita Okechukwu, said this in Abuja at a news conference.
Okechukwu said the CNPP was in support of the merger talks among the three political parties.
He said: “CNPP is in support of the three political parties that are trying to merge and calls on those de-registered to join the merger plan.
“We applaud the CPC, ACN and ANPP for trying to come together.
“This will enable them to form a united front.”
Okechukwu advised the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, not to allow himself to be distracted by things that will add no value to the delivery of free and fair elections in Nigeria.
Okechukwu said Jega should “pay more attention to those things that can bring to bear, free and fair election in Nigeria.”
One of such things Okechukwu urged Jega to pay attention to is the implementation of the recommendations of the Justice Mohammed Uwais-led Electoral Reform Committee.
He said: “He (Jega) should pay attention to advance those courses recommended by the committee.
“We need free and fair election.
“If there is free and fair election, the political parties on their own will do their own internal censorship.”
Okechukwu said with the decision of the government not to fund political parties again, there is the tendency by the political parties to source for money from just anyone or group.
“Government has stopped funding parties and if it has stopped funding parties, they would find ways to sustain themselves,” Okechukwu said.
