A major crisis is brewing in the Premier League as the Club Owners have resolved to resist the proposed new governing structure of the League Management Company as endorsed by the General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation in Lagos last weekend.
The NFF, in its communique released after the meeting on Saturday had approved the new structure for the LMC.
But the Club Owners, in a letter dated November 17, 2014 and addressed to the General Secretary and copied members of the Assembly, insisted the tenure of the present LMC management expired at the end of the season.
Giving reasons for their objection to LMC’s continued stay in office, the Club Owners made reference to NFF’s letter to FIFA on August 6, 2013, where it was stated that the LMC would only manage the league in the interim pending the election of a substantive board.
They restated their position on the conduct of election into the board of the Premier League.
“Pursuant to the statutory responsibility of the NFF to defend and uphold the status and FIFA standard electoral code, we sincerely believe that the provision of the statutes shall remain supreme in your day to day decisions and as it may deem fair and proper in the circumstance, to uplift the football development in Nigeria,” the statement signed by Barrister Isaac Danladi, the acting chairman of the Club Owners, read.
The Club Owners maintained that the tenure of the present LMC had been settled during the General Assembly held in Warri, Delta State on November 28, 2013, which approved one season extension for the LMC after several debates with the club.
