Cardiff City are primed to beat Swansea in the chase to sign West Brom outcast, Osaze Peter Odemwingie, after being given permission to open contract negotiations.
Odemwingie has been out of favour with Baggies boss, Steve Clarke, since the last day of the January transfer window when he drove without permission to Loftus Road in a failed attempt to push through a move to QPR.
The 32-year-old forward was fined £75,000 by furious officials at the Hawthorns and has only played seven times for West Brom since then.
Cardiff have yet to agree a fee with the Midlands club but are believed to be closer to the Baggies’ valuation than the Swans, who feel the asking price is too high for a player with just 12 months left on his current deal.
Stoke City are also interested but the Potters have yet to declare their hand and Odemwingie could finally move to the Welsh capital for around £3 million.
