Despite cries from several quarters of the failure of the All Progressives Congress-led government in the country, the Christian Association of Nigeria has lambasted critics, saying the government of the day has done well in various areas.
While speaking on Sunday in a message titled: “Leadership in Righteousness,” at a thanksgiving and praise event to mark two years in office of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State in Minna, the state Chairman of the CAN, Rev Mathias Echioda, charged the government to shun sycophants.
According to Echioda: “Critics hardly perform; it is wrong for anyone to say this government is not working.
“Anyone who is criticising should be able to balance their criticism.
“For me, has the Federal Government under President Muhamadu Buhari done well? My answer is yes.
“Has the state government under Abubakar Sani Bello done well? My answer is yes.
“But has the government at all levels done everything? My answer is no.
“The government is doing its best and we all need to commend and not to condemn them.”
Reverend Echioda further warned the government to be weary of sycophants, adding: “I believe that people should not be condemned. It will be unfair for anyone to say the government is not doing anything.
“It is good to listen to even fools and idiots because they also have what to contribute. And most times, it is the people from within. Leadership is a calling it also has burden.
“But one thing we know for sure is that God who put them there will grant them wisdom and knowledge to lead the nation forward.”
Echioda reminded the government of the urgent need to employ Christian Religious Knowledge teachers by September, adding: “We are the ones that voted you people there. There should not be any form of injustice.
“If the government wants to remove hooliganism and negative activities from the street, then it must meet the September 2017 target.”
Bello, while speaking, said he hoped the state will engage more teachers, adding that he has given the Commissioner fro Education a marching order for the employment of CRK teachers across the state.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Jonathan Vatsa, urged Christians not to despair in the eyes of criticism, adding that it is not every prayer that has affirmative answers from God.,
According to him: “All we owe God is thanksgiving. Democracy is not sweet until you sit down and ask the government questions and we should be able to give answers to your questions.
“We are worshipping God because He has kept us together and has helped us to stay stronger. We want the glory of God to come down in Niger State.”
Prayers were offered for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari, for peace and unity in Nigeria, the states and local government areas.
