The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Friday as the Eid el Fitr day.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Sultan announced the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1436 AH in no fewer than 10 states.
Abubakar enumerated the states to include Kano, Borno, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi and Kebbi.
The Sultan said the sighting of the new moon was reported by various Muslim leaders and organisations from across the country.
He said the sighting of the new moon was duly verified and authenticated by the National Moon Sighting Committee and that of the Sultanate Council.
“Consequent upon this, tomorrow Friday, 17th day of July becomes the first day of Shawwal 1436 AH and the day of the Eid el Fitr,” Abubakar added.
He called on the Muslim faithful to pray for the peace and unity of Nigeria and to continue to live in harmony with their fellow country men.
