African champions, the Super Eagles, have finally settled to camp in Mexico as against the United States of America that was earlier proposed as preparatory site for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
The change in camp site was based on the recommendation of the Technical Committee of the federation.
The Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, had last month told the media of his proposal for the team to camp in either Miami or Houston, USA ahead of the tournament, but the committee, which met last week, approved the programme, making a slight amendment to camping arrangement.
The Chairman of the Committee, Barrister Chris Green, who confirmed the choice of Mexico at the weekend in Abuja, added that the committee picked Mexico because it is on high altitude, stressing that it boasts of similar weather conditions to Brazil.
Green said: “We feel we should now camp in Mexico as it will suit for high altitude training.
“Mexico is bordered by about five states in the United States and is nearer to Houston, Texas and Miami, Florida.
“The climatic condition in those places now is the same thing as you have in Mexico and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
“We will do our best to prepare for the World Cup because there is no perfect situation.”
Speaking further on possible international friendly matches for the Super Eagles in the next FIFA open window, Green added: “We have to settle for a country from South America.
“We need to play any of those countries that are close to the like of America as well play the same football pattern with Argentina, which is one of the countries in the eagles group.
“However, I have to keep the name of the country we intend to play to myself.
“The team will also engage other countries from Eastern Europe and the neighbours of Iran and Bosnia when they enter into camp in May for the final round up of its preparation for the World Cup.”
