Roma Manager, Jose Mourinho has quit his position on the UEFA football board.
Mourinho’s decision followed his four-match European ban over his abuse of referee Anthony Taylor following Roma’s defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League final.
Addressing UEFA, Mourinho stated: ‘the conditions which I so strongly believed in when I joined are no longer standing’.
As reported by The Athletic, Mourinho sent a letter to UEFA Chief of football Zvonimir Boban, who is chair of the board.
Mourinho’s letter read: ‘In thanking you for the invitation you extended to me to be a member of the UEFA football board, I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will be renouncing my participation in this group.
‘The conditions which I so strongly believed in when I joined are no longer standing and I felt the obligation to take this decision.
‘I kindly ask that you also communicate my decision to the President Mr. Aleksander Ceferin.’
Mourinho was livid with some of the decisions that Taylor made during the final and received a yellow card during the game, while seven Roma players were booked.
After his side’s defeat on penalties Mourinho confronted Taylor in the car park.
‘F***ing disgrace man, it’s a f***ing disgrace,’ Mourinho fumed, before switching to swear at the official in Italian. ‘F*** off,’ he continued.
Mourinho then approached the minibus taking the referee away from the stadium where he sniped: ‘Congratulations, you f***ing disgrace’, before trudging off to the team bus.
Mourinho was charged by UEFA with using ‘insulting/abusive language against a match official.
Taylor and his family were then harassed by a group of Roma supporters at Budapest Airport when flying home after the game.stadium and it
