The Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday called on security agencies in the state to investigate the alleged assassination attempt on its Speaker, Hon. Victor Ochei.
The assembly passed the resolution in Asaba followed a motion by Hon. Samuel Mariere, representing Ughelli North I Constituency.
Mariere criticised the assassination attempt and said there was the need for an urgent investigation to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book.
He said if not for God, the story would have been a different one.
The motion was unanimously adopted.
It would be recalled that the Delta State Police Command confirmed the attempted assassination on November 1 at Obomkpa in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.
Ochei was at Obomkpa for a function when one of two locally made canon contraptions, a lethal Improvised Explosive Device, exploded and injured a female aide to one of the speaker’s associates.
The victim, whose left ankle was shattered as a result of the explosion, was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba by the speaker’s pilot vehicle.
She was, however, transferred to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, for further medical attention.
