Assembly recommends removal of District Head

The Adamawa State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution asking Mubi Emirate Council to dethrone Bakura Iya, the District Head of Madagali, Madagali Local Government Area of the state.
The House in a resolution affirmed that Iya was not the rightful winner of election conducted by the kingmakers for the position.
The resolution followed the adoption of a report by the House Standing Committee on Public Petitions that recommended the removal of Iya after it studied a petition on the district head’s election.
The report, presented at the plenary by the Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Shuaibu Baba (APC-Fufore/Gurin), said the result of the election showed that of the four village Heads that voted in the election, Iya got only one vote against the three votes scored by his opponent and petitioner, Mustapha Iya.
The House posited that the result of the election as the will of the majority should be respected and the appointment of Iya be reversed.
The plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Aminu Abbas, further directed the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to commence steps for the amendment of the State District Creation Law 1992 to ensure that only persons with the highest votes is recommended to the state governor for appointment as District Head.
Abbas directed the Clerk of the House to transmit the resolutions and recommendations of the legislators to the executive arm for implementation.
