The Speaker of the Kogi House of Assembly, Alhaji Umar Imam, has urged the State Government to learn from the achievements and challenges of successive administrations in order to move the state forward.
Imam gave this advice on Tuesday in Lokoja in his welcome address to members of the House on resumption from recess, saying the last 25 years of the state had been eventful.
He also urged the government to learn from the pitfalls of past regimes, as the state marked its silver jubilee.
“We have shared experiences of successes and challenges since the creation of the state to situate ourselves for a better future.
“These experiences should permeate our official responsibilities as sign posts to guide against the pitfalls of the past administrations and to direct our achievements from their successes.”
Imam described the on-going renovation of the assembly complex, as an attempt to improve on the working environment and to experience the beauty and power of a true legislative assembly for good governance.
He charged the members to work harder for the advancement of the state.
He further stated that: “As we work with other arms of government, we must advance our legislative processes with precision to achieve success and sustainable gains of democracy.”
Also, the House inaugurated two members, who were recently elected in the State Assembly re-run elections held in Ofu and Idah state constituencies.
They are Dr Friday Ali (PDP-Ofu) and Haruna Idoko-Musa (APC-Idah), who took their Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office.
Idoko-Musa, a second-timer in the house, pledged to work harder to enable the people enjoy more democratic dividends.
Ali also thanked all those who stood by him and supported his ambition, even as he promised to represent them well.
