Barely one week after operatives of the Department of State Services and Dr. Ibraheem Dooba, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State, engaged in a fight, the All Progressives Congress in the state has called on its members to respect constituted authority in their conduct in government offices in order not to turn themselves to nuisance and cause disorderliness in the state.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Jonathan Vatsa, the party noted that though it formed the government, members should not be seen as taking the situation for granted by not respecting those in authority.
According to the APC: “Of serious concern is the few recent altercations with security personnel, and the members of the party. We should respect law officers who operate based on laid down rules of engagement.
“We promised change and the people voted for change, we must therefore divorce ourselves from the past where party men believe in absolute control of power without recourse to good governance; we form the government but the government is for all the people.”
It should be noted that the CPS and some operatives of the DSS last week engaged in a wrestling bout, which saw the CPS battered.
Vatsa stated that government transcends party lines and the party men must not pose themselves as hangers-on in any office but a supporter of the ideals of change, which means a break from the shackles of the past.
He said: “We all agreed that things must change, that it cannot be business as usual, so we as party men must not distract the government we so toil to form for the good people of Niger State, we must observe absolute decorum in our conduct.
“Our position on this is based on the few altercations between some of party men and security agencies reported, our position is that in as much as we appeal to security agents to be gentle to every citizen, we find it right also to urge our members to respect schedules and rules, and not to be forceful in always having their ways into offices to distract officials.”
The statement therefore lauded all party men for their steadfastness in supporting the government of Governor Bello who it said is on the right track in salvaging the state in taking its rightful place in terms of development.
Vatsa stated in the statement that Bello will make Niger State great and attain the desired level of development as expected by the people of the state.
