The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has called on Governor Ayodele Fayose to stop instigating activities that promote insecurity of lives and property in the state.
A statement by the state Publicity Secretary of APC, Taiwo Olatubosun, said deliberate starving of security agents of funds has resulted in security lapses that allow criminals to have a field day across the state.
Olatubosun said that two days ago, Fayose accused the APC of plotting to import thugs to cause mayhem in the state during yuletide, while in actual fact the governor himself had laid the foundation for insecurity.
The party said: “We have raised the alarm over deliberate starving of security agents, such as the police, DSS, Army and Civil Defence Corps of funds. The cut in security votes to these security outfits has resulted in low morale of security men and poor maintenance of the equipment to fight crimes in the state.”
Olatubosun explained that it is an act of gross insensitivity, callousness and greed that vote for the security of the citizens has been reduced while that of personal security of the governor has increased from N100 million to N200 million.
He added that criminals snatching personal effects from the residents are back on the streets of Ado-Ekiti because the governor had instructed the streetlights to be switched off at 10pm while light is supplied 24 hours in the Government House where the governor lives and works.
The statement added: “It is callous for the governor to continue to deceive Ekiti people that he does not live in the Government House because he cannot be living in a well-lit house while the generality of Ekiti people live in darkness. The truth is that from day one, the governor has been living in the new Government House and has even spent more money to upgrade the facilities there even though he would cry out in the public that Governor Kayode Fayemi wasted Ekiti money by building the house.
“Now that he has cut electricity supply to Ado-Ekiti at nights that makes criminal activities to thrive while he lives in the Government House that has 24 hours electricity supply, all Ekiti people can clearly see that the governor loves no one but himself.”
The party spokesman also expressed concern over alleged collection of local governments allocation without disbursing same to the local governments to run the grassroots governments while also refusing to pay the state pensioners their entitlements.
His words: “We have it on good authority that the governor has collected local government allocations but he has refused to disburse the money to the local governments to enable them carry out functions that have direct beneficial effects on rural people who Governor Fayose claims to be his friends. What of the pensioners he promised abundant life during his campaign but has refused to pay their entitlements?
“It is unfortunate that Ekiti people have fallen into this deceit trap set for them by the governor. Some workers have lost their promotions. Market women have started regretting their support for Fayose because the governor has sent them packing from their trading posts. Okada riders are regretting for supporting Fayose because the governor has developed a policy that will hurt the operations of okada riders. All these against the promises he made during campaigns. Yet everywhere the governor goes, he says he will always protect the interest of these categories of Ekiti people.”
