The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress headed by the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has adopted the report of the Appeals Committee for the Edo State governorship election primaries.
This was disclosed on Monday by the APC National Secretary of the party, Mai Mala Buni.
Buni announced that the APC NWC also approved the winner of the June 18, 2016 primaries, Godwin Obaseki, as the party’s flagbearer for the September 10, 2016 governorship election.
Recall that the three-member Appeal Committee on June 29, 2016 submitted its report to Odigie-Oyegun at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
The Election Appeals Committee was chaired by Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, a former member of the House of Representatives.
Other members were Alhaji Mustapha Salisu and Ekwy Onyido.
The Appeals Committee received petitions of two aspirants, Barrister Kenneth Imansuagbon, and Engineer Chris Ogiemwonyi.
The Committee commenced sitting on June 21, 2016 and sat till June 28, 2016.
The Appeals Committee in its report submitted that the primaries was valid and while not dismissing the seriousness of the allegations and claims of the petitioners, the issues raised were not compelling enough as to warrant the cancellation demanded.
The Appeals Committee called on all APC stakeholders in Edo State to put the party’s interest over and above personal interests in ensuring a speedy and amicable reconciliation.
The Appeals Committee recommended that the leadership of the party should step up diplomacy in trying to reconcile stakeholders in Edo State.
The Appeals Committee also urged Odigie-Oyegun to consolidate on his involvement in reaching out to all aggrieved parties.
The Committee recommended that a high-powered committee be set up by the party to reach out and mediate between the Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and all aspirants who participated in the primaries.
