APC alleges plot to burn Ekiti INEC office

The All Progressives Congress has raised the alarm of a plot to burn the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The APC, in a terse statement by its Director of Publicity in Ekiti State, Segun Dipe, said the plot is to destroy all the materials used for the governorship election held in the state on July 21, 2014.
The candidate of the APC and incumbent Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, lost to Ayo Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Though Fayemi conceded defeat to Fayose, his party has decided to challenge the outcome of the poll at the Election Petitions Tribunal.
Dipe, in the statement by email on Wednesday morning, alleged fire incidence would be blamed on power surge.
Though he did not finger any one, group or party, Dipe said it remains strange why anyone would want to burn down the INEC office if there was nothing to hide.
He said: “But why would any person or persons want to set the ballot papers of a ‘free and fair’ election on fire, especially now that the APC has decided to test the result with the tribunal?
“Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom.”
