Another bonus row rocks Super Eagles

It is not often that team officials go moody after a major victory.
But that was the case with Nigeria on Saturday night after the Super Eagles became one of the 10 teams to contest for the five African slots at next year’s World Cup.
The bonus row has again come alive.
Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation made frantic efforts to convince the players to accept the $5,000 winning bonus, which they turned down.
Even the coach, Stephen Keshi, allegedly failed to collect his own bonus, fueling suspicions that he may be working in concert with the players.
An NFF official remarked on Saturday night that the football body was waiting for Coach Keshi to collect his winning bonus at least to demonstrate that he was not behind the players’ apparent revolt.
There was a row after Nigeria’s last match with Namibia when the players refused to board their scheduled flight to South Africa to connect another one to Brazil for the Confederation Cup.
A ministerial committee set up blamed all parties involved in the row.
The committee was headed by former presidential spokesman, Olusegun Adeniyi.
The Adeniyi committee advised that the winning bonus should be fixed at $5,000.
However, Godfrey Gaiya, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, reportedly advised the NFF not to be quick in implementing the report of the ministerial committee on the bonus row.
Gaiya said the Eagles should be paid $10 000 win bonus for the qualifier against Malawi since the Adeniyi committee report has not been officially accepted.
