Anambra Governorship Primary: Appeal committee confirms petition against gubernatorial candidate

The All Progressives Congress Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee for Anambra said it had received petitions against Tony Nwonye, the party´s candidate in the Nov. 18 governorship election.
Secretary of the three-member committee, Dr Nosa Aladeselu, made this known when she submitted the committee´s report to Senator Osita Izunaso, the party’s National Organising Secretary, in Abuja on Tuesday.
Nwoye had defeated Senator Andy Uba, George Moghalu and nine other aspirants at the APC governorship primary election on Aug. 26 in Awka.
Uba had publicly protested the outcome of the election, alleging that, alleging that it was marred with irregularities.
Aladeselu said: “A number of people submitted petitions, and also a good number representing our party members from Anambra made personal appearances.
“We also had situations where some groups that did not come, submitted affidavit of their understanding of the processes.
“What we have in this report is a collection of those complaints and responses, after reviewing the petitions from our members at the primaries.”
She added that the committee invited officials and stakeholders that were indicted by the petitioners and key persons whose responses formed part of the reports.
She said that the committee heard all witnesses, explaining that the report contained analysis of petitions received, understanding of witnesses and recommendations.
Receiving the report, Izunaso thanked the committee members and promised to forward the report to the party´s National Working Committee for appropriate action.
