Amosun harps on development as new Olu of Ilaro gets staff of office

The Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Saturday presented the staff of office to the new Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, urging the monarch to concentrate on the task of accelerating the pace of socio-economic development in Yewaland.

While urging the new President of the Yewa Traditional Council and a Rotational Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas to unite all contestants to the throne and their supporters, Amosun charged all the sons and daughters of Ilaro community to cooperate with the new king.
“This is because experience has shown that no meaningful development can take place in an environment of rancour and acrimony,” the governor said.
Amosun reiterated the determination of his administration to continue the implementation of its five cardinal programmes of affordable qualitative education, efficient healthcare delivery, increased agricultural production/industrialisation, affordable housing/urban renewal, rural and infrastructural development and employment generation.
“The present administration,” he said, “has rehabilitated Owode-Ilaro Road and will soon commence the dualisation of the Ilaro-Papalanto road. These are federal roads but they are crucial to the economic development of Ilaro town and Yewaland in general,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Muyiwa Oladipo, said the appointment of the new king followed the due process of the law and called on the people of Ilaro to unite in order to move the community and Yewaland forward.
Olugbenle thanked the government and the people of the state for the peaceful succession to the throne and promised to be the father of all and rule with the fear of God.
The installation ceremony was witnessed by top government functionaries, paramount traditional rulers in Ogun State and Yorubaland and eminent citizens of the nation.
The new king succeeds Oba (Dr.) Samuel Adeniran Adekanmbi Tella Agbenuaran III, who joined his ancestors on February 20, 2008.
The Secretary of Yewa South Local Government had set the machinery in motion for the filling of  the vacant stool on January 11, 2012 through the issuance of a public notice to Asaye-Agunloye Ruling House.
The state government, in accordance with Part II of the Chief’s Law, Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006, approved the selection of the new Oba as Olu of Ilaro on February 20, 2012.
