The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has reiterated the commitment of his administration to the FADAMA III Additional Finance Project of the World Bank.
Speaking through the Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, on Wednesday in Lagos, while receiving the Federal Government/World Bank 5th technical mission at the Governor’s Office in Alausa, Ikeja, Ambode said it is critical to support FADAMA for its unique interventions and vital assistance to farmers in Lagos State.
The Governor assured the delegation of good governance and transparency in funds disbursements and projects implementation.
He said: “I want to assure you that whatever we say we will use the grants for, infrastructure, roads, storage facilities and so on, that exactly is what we will do.”
The Head of the mission and World Bank Task Team Leader, Dr. Adetunji Oredipe, commended the Ambode administration for its recent synergy with Kebbi State on rice production, while urging the government to speed up such initiatives with other states, especially the South West states
Oredipe, who informed that Lagos State was specially chosen because of its important location and as a corridor for movement of goods on land, sea and air, urged the governor to speed up the release of its counterpart funds for 2015 and 2016, bearing in mind that others states are also competing for the funds, coupled with the fact that agriculture is seasonal and time bound.
The FADAMA III Additional Financing is a financing agreement between the Federal Government and World Bank to ramp up production of value crops in six core states of Anambra, Enugu, Kano, Kogi, Lagos and Niger States.
