Air Force jet with two pilots onboard missing in Adamawa

The Nigerian military has declared an Alpha Jet belonging to the Nigerian Air Force missing in Adamawa State, North East of the country.
According to the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, the plane went missing while on routing operational mission.
Nigerian troops have been battling the Boko Haram insurgents, who appeared to have taken over about five local government areas in Adamawa State and seven in Borno State.
Last week, the insurgents shot son of a former President, Colonel Adeboye Obasanjo, in the leg during gun duel in Adamawa State.
Olukolade’s terse statement in the wee hours of Sunday read: “An Alpha Jet (NAF 466) belonging to the Nigerian Air Force is missing around Adamawa State.
“The aircraft, with two pilots onboard, left Yola at about 10:45am on 12 September 2014 on a routine operational mission and was expected back by 12:00 noon.
“Since then all efforts to establish contact with the aircraft have not yielded any positive result.
“Meanwhile, search and rescue effort is ongoing to establish contact with the crew.”
