Governors Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State and Abdulfatah Ahmed have congratulated the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Femi Adesina, on his elevation to the position of Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of the Sun newspapers.
Ajimobi, in a statement issued in Ibadan on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, also congratulated other staff of the Sun recently uplifted to senior management positions.
He said that Adesina’s promotion and those of others were well-deserved and an acknowledgment of their contributions to the course of journalism and the upliftment of the establishment.
Ajimobi described Adesina as a thorough-bred journalist, columnist and prolific writer, whose professional competence and administrative acumen have helped in elevating the quality of the Sun newspapers.
Besides, he said that the ace journalist had proven himself to be the conscience of the nation, particularly through his incisive comments on national issues and constructive criticisms of government policies and programmes through his regular column.
Ajimobi also acknowledged his immense contributions to the development of journalism profession through his handling of the affairs of the Nigerian Guild of Editors since he became the president.
He expressed the hope that Adesina would continue to bring his vast journalism experience to bear on the running of the newspaper so that it would continue to soar high and maintain its leading position in the media industry.
Ahmed, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba, expressed optimism that given the professional pedigree of the newly elevated editorial and non editorial staff, the strategic drive for excellence by the organisation would be attained.
The governor, who also congratulated the appointees, noted that the exercise was noteworthy as it has the potentials of motivating other workers in the newspaper publishing house to strive for excellence.
Ahmed advised the newly promoted staff of the Sun to sustain the tempo of excellence that has made the Sun “The Voice of the Nation” in all ramifications.
