Afenifere chieftain and Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has described the incessant political killings in the state as worrisome.
Adeyeye said: “There is possibility of anarchy in Ekiti State if the police and other security agencies in the state fail to bring perpetrators of the killings to justice.”
Adeyeye, who reacted to the killing of a supporter of the Ekiti Bibiire Coalition, Foluso Ogundare, in Emure-Ekiti, added: “The State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; his party, the All Progressives Congress, and most importantly, the State Police Command must be blamed for the latest killing.”
In a statement in Ado-Ekiti on Monday by the Director General of Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement, Hon. Bisi Kolawole, the governorship aspirant said if those who killed Chief Adeleye Awolumate in Otun-Ekiti, Ayo Murphy Jeje and 76-year-old Madam Juliana Adewumi in Erijiyan-Ekiti and perpetrators of other political violence allegedly sponsored by the Fayemi-led government had been made to face the full wrath of the law, what happened in Emure-Ekiti on Sunday would not have happened.
Adeyeye said it was worrisome that instead of the police to arrest perpetrators of political violence in the state, especially those who openly blocked major roads in Ado-Ekiti on September 19, 2013, brandishing guns, cutlasses, knives and other dangerous weapons, the police chose to arrest and charge to court supporters of Bibiire Coalition, who merely attended the launching of the group.
He said: “It is also instructive to note that it was in the full glare of the police in Ado-Ekiti, that Governor Fayemi gathered known political thugs of the APC and inaugurated them as members of Peace Corps, a security outfit that authorised to arrest and detain people.
“Like other previous murders perpetrated by the Fayemi-led government, those who killed Foluso Ogundare in Emure-Ekiti on Sunday are known. The people who saw them shooting Foluso Ogundare at close range are alive to testify.
“Therefore, if the police and other security agencies in the country do not want anarchy in Ekiti State, those who murdered Foluso Ogundare in Emure-Ekiti must be arrested, prosecuted and punished.”
